Picture Day - Christian Skit

She was sure the picture worked fine without her. From the back of the room, the photographer could see the hole.

It's church directory day, and Connie is already eleven minutes behind because she builds in seven. The backdrop is up, the riser wobbles, and Marla keeps finding reasons to step out of the frame. She'll hold the coats. She'll take the picture. Somebody is going to want water.

It isn't a photograph with a gap in it. It's a body with a part missing.

Picture Day is an original 5-minute Christian skit written exclusively for Loving Christ Ministries. Five women, one church directory photo, and a story that lands the message of belonging on open hearts before you ever step up to teach. It's funny, it's tender, and there is a woman in your church who will recognize herself in Marla.

SYNOPSIS

In Picture Day, Marla has been at this church thirty years and has taken the directory photo for the last four of them. She ran the hospitality table for twenty-two years. Every funeral dinner, every new-member coffee, every time somebody had a baby, she made the ham. In April a very nice young woman with a laminator handed her a binder and said they had it from here. Nobody has called since.

Denise, the hired photographer on her forty-first church directory of the year, has no stake in the room and says the thing nobody else will: there has been a hole in the back row for four years, and she can see it from where she is standing. The turn comes from Tasha, newer to the church, who remembers the Sunday she sat in the back with her keys in her hand, already decided she was leaving, and somebody put a coffee in her hand and said come sit with me. Tasha teaches the four-year-olds now. She is on the committee with the binder. The woman who replaced Marla is the woman Marla kept.
