Prepare Him Room is a four-session Advent retreat for women's ministry, ready to lead as a one-day retreat, an overnight, or four weekly evenings through Advent.
Not long ago, a ministry leader sent me a note I haven't been able to stop thinking about. Her group holds a retreat every Advent, and she had noticed that everything I offered for this time of year was about Christmas. She was hoping for something written for the weeks of waiting.
She was right. Most of us rush right past Advent. The decorations go up, the calendar fills, and before we know it we're standing at Christmas Eve wondering where December went. Advent has its own gift to give. It's the season of getting ready, of waiting with hope and making room, and that's exactly why I wrote this retreat.
Over four sessions, your women will walk through the weeks before Jesus was born with the people who waited for Him. Each session lights one candle on the Advent wreath:

✞ What do I get, and how do I get it?
Three PDFs: the 54-page Leader Guide, the 9-page Participant Journal, and the 6-page Advent at Home guide. Everything is delivered right after checkout.
✞ Can I use it if we don't do overnight retreats?
Yes. The four sessions are the same in every format. You can lead it as a one-day retreat on a Saturday, an overnight, or four weekly evenings of about 90 minutes, lighting one more candle each week.
✞ Do I need an experienced teacher?
No. Every session has a full teaching script written to be read aloud, plus an outline if you'd rather teach from notes. One woman can teach all four sessions, or four women can each take one.
✞ How many women does it work for?
The prayer stations work for 8 to 60 women, and you can print as many journals and Advent at Home guides as you need.
✞ Which Bible translation does it use?
Scripture is quoted from the NIV. Every passage is referenced, so your women can follow along in whatever Bible they bring.
✞ Will I need to update it next year?
No. Nothing in the retreat is dated, so you can lead it this Advent and again in the years ahead.

The retreat materials are written for one long, complete teaching session, which can be presented in a variety of ways depending on your event format. Many leaders use it as the foundation for a half-day or single-session retreat, while others divide it into 2–3 parts to create a full weekend experience.
The included teaching, devotional, discussion, and reflection sections are flexible and detailed enough to support multiple sessions with space for worship, crafts, breakout groups, and personal application.
