Three friends looked inside the box. Not one of them asked her to hand it over.
Brokenhearted Belle carries her heart in a cardboard box. Unhelpful Helen takes one look and suggests she put it somewhere out of sight. Positive Polly promises to pray and changes the subject. Then Worse-Off Wanda arrives with a bigger box, and the group agrees hers is objectively worse.
So they all go get their nails done, and Belle is left alone with the box.
The Box is an original Christian skit written exclusively for Loving Christ Ministries. Four women, four chairs, and one cardboard box that every woman in the room has carried in some form. It is funny in the way that stings a little, and the ending lands before you ever step up to teach.
The Box was written for the theme bundle Healer of Broken Hearts and pairs beautifully with any message about grief, healing, and bringing our pain to Jesus.
SYNOPSIS
In The Box, Belle's friends each take a turn with her broken heart and each one gets it wrong. Helen wants it hidden. Polly wants it fixed with a cheerful word. Wanda turns it into a competition. None of them is unkind. They are just doing what most of us do when someone hands us something we don't know how to hold.
When they leave, Belle finally answers the voice that has been speaking to her since the skit opened. She accuses Him of letting her heart break in the first place and asks why she should trust Him with it now. He asks her to give Him the box. She hesitates, and then she lifts it over her head as she cries, and the lights go out.
Ideal for women's retreats, grief ministry, or any gathering where hurting women will be in the room, The Box is designed to run right before your teaching so the message about God's healing lands on an open heart.

Five parts in all. Four women appear on stage, and the fifth is an offstage voice speaking as Jesus, which can be read by a woman or a man. Performance time is approximately 7 minutes. The offstage voice carries the whole ending, so give that part a little extra rehearsal.
